When we opened Gem City Gymnastics and Cheer in 1990, we had one goal. We wanted a quality gymnastics program that would give every child the opportunity to develop to their fullest potential in a positive learning environment. We wanted to build skills, but also spirit. Teach cartwheels, and confidence.
We realize that everyone won't be an Olympic gymnast, but we believe that everyone can enjoy and benefit from learning gymnastics.
Our instructors are formers college gymnastics, college cheerleaders, and experienced performers. They bring a blend of technical knowledge, safety awareness, enthusiasm, and positivity to all their classes.
Our coaches also bring:
- USA Gymnastics Professional Development Program (PDP) Accreditation
- USA Gymnastics Safety Certification
- Training in child development and education
The head of our coaching staff is gym owner Larry McCoppin. Larry is a former Wright State University gymnast, and ran the gymnastics program at Northmont High School for more than 15 years. Larry is backed by two daughters: Nikki and Dani McCoppin. Both are former competitive cheerleaders, and Dani spent 4 years as a college cheerleader at Ohio State University.
Our focus at Gem City is on fitness and fun. But we also teach our students the skills they need to perform under pressure -- and to perform under the highest levels of pressure.
Many of our students have gone on to cheer or gymnastics in college. We've placed students at:
- University of Toledo
- Ball State University
- Wright State University
- University of Dayton
- Shawnee State
- University of the Cumberlands
- Ohio State
- University of Wisconsin-La Crosse
- Eastern Michigan
- Eastern Kentucky
- University of Hawaii
- University off Cincinnati
